8/9/07 Polymer Concepts Merges Into Sapona Plastics
Polymer Concepts, Inc. of Randleman, NC and Sapona Plastics, LLC of
Asheboro, NC are pleased to announce effective August 10, 2007 that
Polymer Concepts is merging it's molding business into Sapona
Plastics. The companies expect to consolidate molding operations by
the end of August to the nearby 50,000 square foot Asheboro, NC
location.
The owners of Polymer, Larry Draughn, president and Rickey Barker,
vice president will continue in a consulting role with Sapona
Plastics for a two year period. Polymer will discontinue all
injection molding but will continue to perform manufacturing services
at it's facility in Randleman. Polymer expects to sell off surplus
molding equipment in the coming months including machines ranging in
size from 55 to 350 Tons.
"The integration of the two companies provides a powerful
combination of quality products, capabilities and resources for our
customers" says Dean Lail, president of Sapona. "We are
particularly pleased to add the patented Groomie rotating head pet
brush to our line of cleaning brushes." Larry Draughn developed
the unique vacuum cleaner attachment brush in 2005.
The team's years of experience, financial strength, and open
communication insure that customers will continue to have a valued
supplier partner for many years to come. Sapona's CEO Jack Lail,
founded Mid-State Plastics in 1971. His son Dean, an engineering
graduate of NC State Univ. with an M.B.A. manages the day to day
operations. Sapona is a joint venture between the Lail family and
Sapona Manufacturing Co. Inc., a textile yarn manufacturer founded in 1836.
Sapona Plastics, is a manufacturer of custom injection molded
products serving various markets including personal care, consumer,
construction, promotional and automotive markets. Related products
include drink mugs, lip balm containers, cleaning brushes and buckets.
Sapona has 14 molding machines ranging in clamp from 100 Tons to 500
Tons and 4 brush bristling machines. Sapona operates with 50
employees on a 7/24 schedule.
Polymer Concepts specialized in plastic injection molding for the
battery, industrial and apparel markets with a significant portion of
export sales. Polymer had 8 molding machines.
6/20/06 - Sapona Plastics UL Recognized Molder
6/1/06 - Sapona Plastics Acquires Assets of Whit Corp.
Whit Corporation and Sapona Plastics, LLC of Asheboro, NC are pleased
to announce effective June 1, 2006 that Sapona Plastics has purchased
the assets of Whit Corporation. The companies expect to consolidate
manufacturing operations during August. Whit manufactured products
including grill brushes, cleaning brushes and other products will now
be manufactured by Sapona Plastics, LLC. Sales representation and
distribution channels will remain unchanged. Key personnel of Whit
are now employed by Sapona Plastics including W. Michael Whitaker,
president of Whit.
Both companies are committed to customer satisfaction and recognize
that 100% on time delivery of quality product is a must. The
integration of the two companies provides a powerful combination of
capabilities and resources for our customers. Both companies offer a
similar approach to customer service. We will continue to build on an
outstanding line of unusually useful patented Whit products,

products produced by Sapona. Sapona's larger injection molding
facility and modern equipment will insure long term competitiveness

10/31/05 - Sapona Plastics Acquires Bucket Line
(Asheboro) Sapona Plastics, LLC has purchased the entire bucket
product line from the Fi-Shock division of Woodstream Corp.. The
purchase included inventory, molds and a 230 Ton molding machine.
"The bucket product line fits well with our other proprietary
products. We look forward to servicing existing customers as well as
expanding distribution through other channels" according to
Richard Mack, VP Sales and Marketing for Sapona Plastics. The
Woodstream/Fi-Shock facility located in Knoxville, TN will continue
manufacturing and distribution of other products.
8/23/05 - Sapona Plastics adds Design Workstation
(Asheboro) Sapona Plastics has initially selected Alibre Design
software for 3D modeling and design communication. The software is
used to develop new products and review customer designs. "3D
parametric modeling software is an important tool as we provide full
service engineering and design input. Our extensive experience in
plastic molding coupled with early involvement in design helps ensure
our customers' success" according to Dean Lail, president of the company.
Alibre was selected for it's ease of use, on line support, and low
cost. We are already fully up to speed with the capabilities of the
software having completed multiple new designs in addition to
completing online training. Alibre also offers online interactive
technical assistance where an experienced support person can assist
