History
- Sapona Plastics, LLC Sapona Plastics began by purchasing the assets of Asheboro Precision Plastics which entered chapter 7 bankruptcy on April 16th, 2004. The building and lip balm equipment were leased to Asheboro Precision by the Lail family company, JBDJ, LLC. The Lail's created L&L Plastics to form the new Sapona Plastics along with Sapona Manufacturing. At that time, Dean Lail was president of Sapona Manufacturing. Jack Lail, CEO, was founder of Mid-State Plastics in Seagrove, NC in 1971. The company grew at an average annual rate of 20% until it was sold in 1994 to Anchor Advanced Products. In 1997, Mr. Lail retired after completing a three year management transition contract with Anchor. Shortly thereafter the rest of the family members left the company and Anchor Advanced Products sold to Moll Industries. In 1998, Dean Lail, joined Sapona Manufacturing, a synthetic yarn maker, as Director of Engineering and soon assumed the president role Through strategic planning, the company set a direction to diversify outside of textiles into a service industry, immune from foreign competition, with good profitability and growth prospects. After several initial investments in mechanical systems maintenance and mobile pet wash services, the opportunity to enter the injection molding and assembly business presented itself. |
